Our bodies are constantly changing and evolving, so why on earth does our mind pull the E-brake when we are faced with it? WHY do we resist, tense up, and freeze? Change is scary because we don’t know what is on the other side. We don’t know what to expect. While one door may be closing, another is wide-open just waiting for us to walk through and grasp new opportunities. “We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us” – Joseph Campbell.
I used to not enjoy change at all… like at all at all. I would avoid it like the plague. I was pretty comfortable, so what difference did it make? What I didn’t realize was, in avoiding change I was only hurting myself. I was saying no to opportunities and growth, while also packing pounds of stress and worry onto my shoulders. I had an excuse for everything – I either wasn’t capable enough, or wasn’t confident enough, or wasn’t smart enough. I didn’t think I had the knowledge necessary to take the jump into new opportunities.
Well I finally took the plunge – I signed up for Yoga Teacher Training. Mind you, I only signed up to “deepen my practice” and learn more about the “spiritual side” of yoga. There was no way I could audition in front of management – let alone teach my own class. This is what I was telling myself and honestly believing it!! Why? Because I was scared to death to make a fool out of myself, to feel like an imposter, to not be able to answer students’ questions…the doubts went on and on. I was petrified to go beyond my comfort zone because I was terrified to fail. I literally held my breath when I walked into the studio on that first night.
Fast forward to today – it’s been a year since the first day of training when I nervously introduced myself to the class and didn’t say a single additional word for the next 3 hours. Thinking back to that night, I cannot believe the self-awareness, growth, and confidence I’ve gained from grasping this single opportunity.
I’m starting to realize creating my products and teaching classes is more than a hobby. I would tend to downplay my “crazy little idea”, HippieBliss, commenting that it’s “nothing special”, “I don’t put much attention into it”…yada yada yada. That’s all BS (bull snot as Dane would say). I now realize I was scared to get more invested in my business (yes my business, saying it is such relief now, it makes me feel giddy). I was outside of my comfort zone. If you aren’t catching on, this little safe zone is a dangerous thing. It hinders us and explains over and over and over all of the reasons why something won’t work because it is fueled by fear. One breath at a time, I’m telling that voice to get lost.
So where does all of this fit in here? Well, I launched a website 2.0, and while it is not completely finished or as polished as I would like it to be, I’m putting it out there. I am confident it will continue to improve with time. My new site is going to have a wider scope. It will encompass information about products, essential oils, yoga, and vegan snacks. Another exciting announcement is HippieBliss products will be stocked at the Difference Salon and Spa in Colusa at 611 Bridge Street! The salon grand opening is Friday, September 14th at 5pm. We will have drinks, appetizers, and a ton of fun. Anyone and everyone is welcome, please stop by!
As we transition into Fall, I challenge you to embrace change with open arms and a smile. A speaker at a conference I recently attended spoke on this topic. Her 3 takeaways were, 1). “If you are uncomfortable, you are where you are supposed to be”; 2). “No one knows exactly what they are doing”; and 3). “Fake it until you become it”. Discomfort is a good thing! Those butterflies mean you are alive – you’re growing, changing, and evolving into the best version of yourself. Have confidence in knowing you are always way more than enough. Who cares what others think? We are all trying our best to make sense out of this crazy life.
Slowly but surely manifesting the life I want to live.
Keep up with products and their stories through following me with my weekly blogs or on instagram @hippiebliss_.
